19 Apr Marorka signs a major contract for its “Smart Shipping” solution
Early March, Marorka announced that it has signed an important contract with a major European player in maritime container transport for its Smart Shipping (1) solution to equip 30 container ships in 2023, with an option for 30 more in 2024.
This contract involves the installation of automatic data collection systems and intelligent software for managing and optimising the energy and environmental performance of ships. It also includes an option for the provision of Weather Routing, for the same fleet.
WHAT IS WEATHER ROUTING AND WHY IS SO IMPORTANT ?
Weather routing is a valuable service designed for all types of ships to calculate the shortest maritime route, based on several optimization criteria or specific constraints.
With increasingly stringent requirements concerning safety, performance and the reduction of environmental impact, vessel captains have a lot of constraints and parameters to take into consideration.
Weather routing supports captains by helping them find the shortest route, while taking into account sea currents, headwinds, wave heights… These considerations often go hand in hand with fuel optimization and time. Indeed, taking advantage of favorable currents, avoiding headwinds or too high waves can save time and money but also contribute to better safety for the crew and the vessels.
